Greenwich Market Food Traders returned to the Market lon 11th June and welcomed visitors with a delicious line up of Greenwich Market Take-Aways. Now open Thursday to Sunday, 10.30am to 4.30pm, visitors can choose from up to 16 food stalls on any one day. The roster of stalls - all much loved favourites from pre-lockdown days - changes daily and menus include vegan, non dairy and vegetarian options as well as traditional roasts and steak and chips. The previously crowded, vibrant market space has been set up to best use all the space and is now a place of calm and a safe environment for both traders and visitors.
Award-winning, wholesome lifestyle bakery Arapina opened its Greenwich flagship doors in 2013. 2020 marks 7 years of trading - offering a seasonal selection of vegan, free-from and low-in organic products. Michaela Pontiki, founder and CEO of Arapina, explained how welcome the return to the Market is for Arapina: "Our bakery remained open during this unprecedented time and we have kept in touch with our customers. Every aspect of Mediterranean life is built on a strong family unit: a special and shared experience with food and the kitchen at the heart of every home. In remaining open, we continued to portray our Mediterranean values that are embedded in our company ethos by providing an essential service and helping our community. We have adapted and we will come out of this experience stronger and more resilient than before. Now, with a smile, we welcome the ’buzziness’ of being back in the market and seeing our fellow traders, shop owners and our customers."
Fellow trader Baj, agrees. She was born and based in Greenwich is founder of the award winning Baj’s Blazin’ Hot Sauces: "It’s just great to be back at Greenwich Market as a long standing trader of 5 years. Seeing all the trader family again after so long and being able to see and speak with our loyal and new customers again is lovely. The vibe and buzz has returned to Greenwich and it feels like home again."
The re-opening news on social media was enthusiastically received with thousands of impressions and messages of support. Local resident Jenni Goodfellow, who is now working from home, tweeted: ‘@greenwichmkt reopened for some selected food stalls today. It’s well managed. There is plenty of space and the food is delicious! Best lunch I’ve had since March!’
